Installing DDMO
1. Click on this link to begin downloading Dungeon Dice Monsters Online as a zip file.
http://www.soanime.com/media/ddmo.zip
2. When prompt, select 'Save'. You can browse around your files to find where you want to save the zip file. For most people usually the 'My Received Files' folder is automatically where downloads are directed to. When you are happy with where your download will be placed, hit 'Save' again.
3. The DDMO zip file will download. It is 2.28 MB (2,392,064 bytes). How fast it downloads depends on the internet connection you use.
4. When you have completed your download, it is time to unzip it. You might need the WinZip program to unzip the files. Go to http://www.winzip.com if you need to download the WinZip program.
Simply unzip the main file, and then unzip the remaining four zip files it contains.
How To Unzip A WinZip File
-Double click on the zip file
-WinZip will appear. Click 'I agree'.
-Click 'Next' to continue.
-If prompt to add it to your Favorite Zip Folders, choose either 'Yes' or 'No'.
-Browse and pick the location you want the file to be unzipped to.
-When happy with your selection click 'Unzip Now'. The file will unzip to the folder you chose, and depending on your settings it may or may not open the containing file folder.
5. Once you have finished unzipping all five compressed files (one being the main DDMO zip file, the other four being: DDMOv001.zip, DDMOUpdatev002.zip, Tabctl32.zip, and VBRun60sp5.zip) it is then time to open, run, and install them onto your computer.
Installing The Four Components:
1. First run DDMOv001.exe.
-Double click on the icon for it to open.
-You will be prompt with a setup alert saying 'This will install Dungeon Dice Monsters Online. Do you wish to continue?'. Select 'Yes' to continue.
-The Setup Wizard will appear to help guide you through the installation. Choose 'Next' to continue.
-Read the License Agreement. Yes, I said read it; it is very short so don't worry!
-Pick the 'I accept the agreement' radio button once you have read and agreed to the terms and conditions. Choose 'Next' to continue.
-Browse your folders and find where you would like to put this file.
'C:\Program Files\Dungeon Dice Monsters Online' is usually where it will be placed, unless you change the destination. Click 'Next' when you have finished this.
-Select the Start Menu folder in which you would like Setup to create the program's shortcuts. Doing this will create a shortcut for you to access when you press Start, and then Program Files on your computer. If you don't want it to be placed in the Start Menu simply check off the 'Don't create a Start Menu folder' box. Click 'Next' when you have finished.
-Last but not least, state whether or not you wish a Desktop Icon shortcut to be placed on your Desktop, or a Quick Launch icon, or both. Click 'Next' to continue.
-A summary of the installation options you have picked will be displayed for you to review. If any changes need to be made or corrected, press 'Back' to go back and do so. If all is well, click on 'Install' to finish the installation.
-The program will install on your computer using the settings you provided for the wizard to follow through with.
-To complete the installation, uncheck the 'Run Dungeon Dice Monsters Online' box, and click 'Finish'.
This is the first version; therefore if you don't uncheck the box, it will open and run for a few seconds before saying ‘Error’ and closing. To correct this problem, you must now run the updated version and runtime support files.
2. Now you must update version one to version two for your DDMO to work. DDMOUpdatev002.exe is the name of the file for you to run next.
-Follow the same instructions as Version 1 to install this next version.
-Make sure you install this version in the same file as the previous one so the old program version will be updated.
3. As you may have noticed, running the program results in run time errors. This is why VBRun60sp5.exe must also be installed.
-Double click the VBRun60sp5.exe icon.
-You will be prompt with a Visual Basic 6.0 with Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 5 Run Time alert saying 'Would you like to install the Visual Basic 6.0 run time files?' Choose 'Yes'.
-The files will extract themselves and will prompt you with an alert saying 'You must restart your computer before the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now?' You may pick 'Yes' or 'No'. At this point, I suggest pressing 'No' because it will still work fine if you don't. It is also better to wait because you will need to restart your computer after completing step four; restarting your computer twice in a row is not what I call efficient. So it is best to wait and just restart it after.
4. Last but not least you must also open and run tabctl32.exe.
-Double click the icon.
-A setup alert will prompt you, saying 'This will install TABCTL32.OCX. Do you wish to continue?'. Click 'Yes'.
-The setup wizard will appear. Click 'Next' to continue.
-Read the short License agreement.
-Check off the 'I accept the agreement' radio button when you have agreed to the terms and conditions. Choose 'Next' to continue.
-Press 'Install'. The files will extract.
-Now you will be asked whether or not you want to restart your computer now or later. Now is the best time to restart.
-Click 'Finish' to finish.
Congrats, now you have installed DDMO!
Starting The Game
Click on 'Start', 'Programs', 'Dungeon Dice Monsters Online', 'Dungeon Dice Monsters Online' OR double click on the Dungeon Dice Monsters Online desktop icon to open your DDMO program. (If neither of those options are available, search your computer for the file you installed the DDMO program in, and then run the program.
When you first run Dungeon Dice Monsters Online, your deck shop appears. Prepare your Dice Pool to play. (Please see 'Dice Pool Formation'.) Next you must connect to your opponent.
Connecting
Connecting to your opponent on DDMO is basically the same as on YVD.
You have two connection options: Either you connect to your opponent, or you wait and listen for your opponent to connect to you.
How to Connect to your Opponent
Click 'Play' ->'Connect '
OR
Press and hold down Ctrl+C
Have your opponent tell you his/her IP that is displayed when they "Listen" for your connection. Click 'Paste' to paste their DDMO IP into the 'Your Opponent's IP' box. In the space below "Waiting to connect..." will be displayed. Next, press 'Connect to Opponent'. "Connecting..." will now be displayed as the program connects to your opponent. "Verifying Connection" may appear. Once you are connected the connection box will disappear, and ">>Connected to {Opponent's IP Address}" will be displayed in the Chat box.
How to Listen for your Opponent's Connection
Click 'Play' ->'Listen'
OR
Press and hold down Ctrl+L
Give your opponent your DDMO IP that is displayed in the box on the right hand side. Click to highlight it, then press 'Copy IP to clipboard' so you can paste it where ever. In the box it will have 'Waiting to listen..' displayed until you are ready to listen for the connection. After you have given your IP to your opponent, press the 'Listen' button to listen for the connection. The program will then connect. The connection box vanishing and the chat box appearing will be your success indicators. At any point you may press 'Stop Listening' if you need to, perhaps due to a firewall or a runtime error.
Make sure you both have the proper DDMO version installed; otherwise no matter how much you try it won't work. Also, if you are having troubles, try restarting DDMO to correct it. Sometimes you may need to try connecting rather than listening, or vice versa.
The Help Tab
The help tab simply says this:
[Help]
DDMO uses port 8000 to connect and listen.
As more people need help with this I can add more to this for
helping.
Obviously since this game isn't as popular as the card game, there isn't much help you can get for this program. From experience with DDMO, if you do come across an error, by closing and restarting it the problem usually does not re-occur. Also, don't purposely try to make the program error, (like let's say for example you put Baby Dragon's attack at 284698237598356978563) otherwise it will close up on you, even if you are right in the middle of a game and winning.
How to Disconnect
Once you have connected to your opponent, if you wish to disconnect at any point, for what ever reason:
Click 'Play'->'Disconnect'
OR
Press and hold down Ctrl+I
How to Close DDMO
There are 3 simple was of closing the DDMO program:
-Click the 'x' in the top hand corner (like most windows on a standard computer)
OR
-Click 'File' ->'Exit'
OR
-Press and hold Ctrl+X
